Pearl Art vs. Diamond Painting: Which DIY Kit Should You Choose?

Boo Crew Ghosts and Jeweled Skull pearl-and-gem art design options

A photo of sparkling craft artwork does not always tell you what is inside the kit. A design described as pearl art, gem art, or diamond painting may use a different mix of pieces and a different placement pattern. Start with the materials and the finished look you want—not just the word “sparkle.”

The practical difference: look at the pieces

Traditional diamond painting uses small decorative pieces, often called drills, placed according to a printed guide. Pearl-and-gem art can combine rounded pearl-style pieces with gem-style accents. The appeal is the contrast between softer rounded highlights and more angular, light-catching details.

These names describe craft styles, not precious materials. Do not assume a kit contains natural pearls or real diamonds. Check the seller’s photographs and materials description, especially when a listing uses several craft terms together.

What our current pearl art kits contain

VibeNook’s Boo Crew Ghosts and Jeweled Skull & Pumpkins listings specify a printed placement canvas, color-sorted pearl-style and gem-style pieces, a sorting tray, an applicator pen, and a wax/gel pad. They are DIY pearl art kits—not finished, ready-to-hang paintings.

These two product pages offer design choices. Use the design selector to choose Four Ghosts or Jeweled Skull, then check the selected design in your cart. One kit contains one selected design; a photo showing two designs does not mean both are included.

Five details to compare before you buy

  1. Piece type and placement: Zoom in on the detail photos. Look for the shapes you will place and the printed areas that remain visible. Do not assume “full drill” coverage unless the listing explicitly says so.
  2. Artwork size: Check the dimensions of your specific design. Both our Four Ghosts and Jeweled Skull designs measure 20 × 20 cm (approximately 7.9 × 7.9 inches). Check each product listing rather than assuming other designs have the same dimensions.
  3. Included tools: A tray, applicator, and wax/gel pad are listed for our current pearl art kits. Frames, display stands, and decorative props are not listed as included.
  4. The image you enjoy: A project you want to display is a better starting point than choosing solely by how many pieces it appears to contain.
  5. Your workspace: You need room to keep the canvas flat and the small pieces organized. Keep loose pieces away from young children and pets.

Which direction suits your next project?

Choose pearl-and-gem art if you like a visibly raised, mixed-texture finish. If you prefer a traditional diamond-painting look, inspect the actual drill shapes, coverage, and kit contents of that product. A gallery image is inspiration, not confirmation that a matching kit is in stock.

If you would rather choose colors freely than follow a placement guide, our DIY coloring blanket kit is a different kind of project. It includes 24 dual-color glitter markers with 48 colors; the activity is coloring on fabric, not placing craft pieces.

Start with one manageable section

There is no universal completion time for these projects. Design, size, and your pace all matter. Before opening several packets, read our pearl art setup guide. When your design is finished, use our display guide to plan where it will go.
